Older: Orca
Just a quick note that I can now fly an Orca. It’s been one year in EvE for me (this past July) and will be 1 year in my current corporation (MicroCon Enterprises) next month.
Newer: The Burning Life Delayed
I’m so bummed. The next EvE Online novelization, entitled EvE: The Burning Life, looks like it’s been delayed.

Zero Zero
For the last year or so of playing EvE (I’m a little over 1 year old now), I’ve been almost strictly plying my trade in high security space. The first corporation I joined after I started playing had a POS in 0.0 in the Geminate region. I had my first (scary) experiences there flying through lo-sec and then out to 0.0. We usually had some help scouting the pipe out there, but it ended up once for me getting bubbled and ganked in a shuttle. Bear in mind some dork had bubbled the gate in 0.0, and I jumped through and right into his trap. I’m in an empty shuttle, with no implants, and he has the indecency to ransom me. I hope he wasn’t looking for a bunch of loot or a juicy kill, because he didn’t get one. I declined the ransom, and he summarily dispatched both me and my pod. It bothered me at the time, but as I look back on it I didn’t lose anything except a clone and a shuttle.
After that, the corporation sort of fell apart, and we all went our separate ways. I joined the corporation I’m in now, Microcon Enterprises. I was encouraged to make trips out to lo-sec and 0.0, and took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about what to do with myself out there. I have been ratting out there, and did a little bit of 0.0 mining, but nothing really extensive.
It was only about a couple months ago that I ended up moving a whole bunch of my combat ready ships out to a location close by Providence region, which is where we spend a lot of time, but I decided to keep my regular activities in Empire space.
MCE has been offered a great opportunity to do some mining out in 0.0, and so I chose to take the option to get my gear out there to take advantage of the offer. So last night, having not much else to do, I ended up jumping into Providence to my clone out there (I kept one out in case we wanted to some ratting). I grabbed my Drake, brought up the intel channel, and plotted my course.
Let me take this opportunity to point those of you who haven’t seen Ombey’s maps to his site to download them. Now.
The reason of course I had to use Ombey’s maps is that my auto-computed course would have taken me on a nice ride through Catch, which I was loathe to do as I’d rather not have any altercations with the locals there. Seeing as how I’m a neutral in Providence, I’m not sure what my status would be shown as in Catch. So I leaned toward the side of caution, and plotted manually.
Made it all the way to my destination with a minimal amount of fuss. I did happen to pass by a neutral in a system on the way, who I later learned was causing some trouble, but wasn’t set on the CVA KOS list just yet. This is why good intel is so nice to have when moving around in 0.0.
At any rate, I was then able to trek my way up through a lo-sec pipe and grabbed my loaded Crane, with a Hulk and Covetor in the cargohold, plus fittings. A couple of cloaked jumps later, and I was safe and sound in my new home away from Empire. I had a little extra time, so I ended up splurging on a new Buzzard plus fittings for some scanning and scouting ability. I can’t wait to start some 0.0 mining operations. We’re trying to get some other corpmates to come out and join us.
One thing I would have to comment on is that 0.0 in Providence is safe for the most part. Intel helps immensely, and the region is very nice to do business in. It’s a heck of a lot better than lo-sec, or in some spots in Empire for that matter. Most of the locals are quite friendly, and willing to assist if necessary.
I think I’ll enjoy being out there.
About the image: This image comes from a very old shot of me mining in 0.0 in the earlier days. Note the age due to the un-pretty asteroids in the picture, and of course, me in a retriever....
